    This intensive qualification course covers all the applied knowledge and understanding thoroughly that are essential to work effortlessly with babies and young children from birth to 7 years of age.

    Who is this qualification for?

    This qualification is suitable for learners who are looking to work with children between birth and 5 years and gain knowledge of working with children up to 7 years. To undertake this qualification, learners do not need to have previous experience or qualifications in working with children.


    • Learners above the age of 19 are eligible for this qualification.
    • Learners are suggested to have a level 1 in literacy and numeracy.
    • Learners must work or volunteer on practical placement to show competence in both knowledge and skills. It is recommended to learners complete 250 placement hours whilst undertaking this qualification.
    • Placement opportunities must allow for skills application with babies and young children to meet the qualification assessment criteria.


    After successfully completing this qualification, you would be eligible to further your education by pursuing one of the following qualifications:

    • Level 3 Early Years Educator qualifications
    • Relevant Level 3 qualifications relating to early years and child care

    Total Qualification Time

    Total Qualification Time comprises GLH and an estimate of the number of hours a learner is likely to spend in preparation, study or any other learning, including assessment, which takes place as directed by, but not under the supervision of a lecturer, supervisor or tutor. 

    Total Qualification Time for this qualification is 370 hours.

    Guided Learning Hours

    These hours comprise all contact time, guidance or supervision of a learner by a lecturer, supervisor, tutor, trainer or other appropriate education or training providers. 

    Guided Learning Hours for this qualification is 293.

    Methods of Assessment

    • Knowledge-based outcomes will be assessed through assessment tasks that will be internally assessed by the tutor and IQA. 
    • Skills-based outcomes will be assessed via direct observation by a supervisor within the real workplace.
