  • No. This is a CPD-accredited knowledge-based course and is not equivalent to a regulated qualification such as a Level 2 or Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning. It can support your professional development and strengthen your understanding of the role.
How long does the course take?

  • The course contains approximately 12 hours of learning material. As it is self-paced, you may complete it over several days or spread your studies across a few weeks. You will have 12 months of course access from the date of enrolment.
What does a teaching assistant do?

  • A teaching assistant supports the classroom teacher by helping learners with activities, preparing resources, supervising pupils, encouraging positive behaviour, and supporting children with different learning needs. Duties vary depending on the school and role.
What qualifications do I need to become a teaching assistant?

  • Requirements vary between schools and employers. Many roles ask for good English and maths skills, relevant experience with children, and suitable safeguarding checks. Some employers may also prefer a recognised Supporting Teaching and Learning qualification.
How is the course assessed?

  • Learners can complete a mock exam to practice and assess their understanding before taking the final exam. The final multiple-choice exam is automatically marked, and learners must achieve at least 60% to pass. Retake exams are unlimited and free.
What do I need to enrol?

  • Anyone aged 16 or older, with a basic understanding of child development and special educational needs, can enrol. The course is fully online and can be accessed from any internet-enabled device, so you study at your own pace.
What does the certificate cost?

  • Nothing extra. The digital CPD-accredited certificate, worth £9, is free on completion of the assessment. A printed hard copy delivered by post is £15, and you can also order an accredited certificate directly from CPDQS if you prefer.
